DATE: January 29th, 2010

The goal of this memo is to provide a summarized and analyzed blog in which it prepares us to run our spring focus group sessions for Proximity. The following information is for a blog explaining how social networking is now reaching the military soldiers while small businesses are using the same form of communication to share, explore, and give feedbacks on ideas. Our main focus for the proximity focus group is to find out how this promote betters communications for small business owners and also if it provides solid communication for the soldiers in the group.

Why use a form of social networking amongst soldiers?
The soldiers are using the Milbook as another from of communication apart from the different and also various forms like Facebook and Myspace. Since its development in October 2009, it has grown to a huge of amount of people joining the Milbook and as of today, the Milbook has approximately 20 thousand members involved. The difference between Milbook and other social networking like Facebook is the security amongst personnel is tight and also Milbook is based on only military personnel can join this website.

What is the good aspect of using for businesses?
When we apply social networking ideas like this out at our business, we will be able to process information faster pass opinions and thoughts on ideas through the web without having to use email or IM and have a straight chat with fellow co-worker. These kinds of technology enhance communication between employers and employees, making the work place more efficient.
What are the problems this social networking might have in the future?external image c.gif
Because this is social networking, information might end up being very difficult to pass along from one party to the next. For instance, look at the famous Facebook which has so many problems when it comes to email and chatting online. But with this type of social networking, there’s a lot of effective communication amongst military personnel and small growing business. Also by using this kind of social networking we can also avoid experiences that involves the network has shut down while something important is/was going on.

Main questions for focus group (TU students)

  • Do you have or do you know anyone that has Milbook and how effective is it?
  • For small business owners, do you think that this social networking will improve your business connection?

There are some good aspects of introducing this type of communication and networking to Proximity, but we are not granted that this process will be to our advantage in the long run.
